Approved for Discover It

February 3rd, 2014 at 03:52 am

I was just approved for the Discover It spend $750 in the first 3 months and get a $150 bonus. That will make a sweet little mortgage chip, whoo hoo!

BF had a realtor and a house flipper guy to his house today. The flipper is a licensed electrician, but knows how to do other work around the house too. They are working on a plan to have the house listed in a month. Think happy thoughts, cross your fingers and toes, make your pet cross its toes too! Oh please, list that house already!

Here's hoping for a fast sale despite the market!

I recently completed my $750 Discover It spend and am impatiently waiting for the 2nd monthly statement, which is when I assume they'll credit me my $150 in points.

Did Realtor made suggestion to add value to BF's house? Are they mostly cosmetic to update or are they to up-grade features? What is the time line for listing? How does Realtor's evaluation line up with Zillow?

I don't know if it's changed any, but a few years back i found that the zillow estimates tended to be higher than they should be, FYI.

The realtor did make suggestions, I don't think BF is interested in all of them. There is one bathroom that was being remodeled when his Mom found out she had cancer and started getting sick. It's still half finished. It needs to get done. There are two other bathrooms in the house, but still.

Zillow and similar sites aren't all that helpful for BF's house, because it is a custom home in a subdivision of custom homes, and they don't tend to come up for sale often, so it is hard to get comps. An empty lot directly across the street sold last October for 650k, but it backs onto the golf course and BF's does not. Some people really prefer that, so it may have helped the value. There is a house on the same side of the street a block further which sold in July 2013 for 1.15m, but it is larger. Also, it is a completely different style. BF's house is kind of Mexican villa. His mom and step-father had it built after visiting a resort in Cancun they especially liked. So that is a factor too, you like Mexican villas or you don't.

It is a beautiful home, but so expensive to live in, even without a mortgage. The property taxes, insurance, and HOA are sky high. And then there is the little matter that BF inherited 2/3, his brother 1/3. The brother wants his share of the money (and rightfully so).

@PatientSaver, thanks for the Discover It info about how quickly the reward credits. Do you still have a balance that you can apply the reward to? Also, in our current area, Zillow seems to be low, but in our old area it was high. I think it can vary based on how they get their information.
