Savings Accounts Migrating Again

May 29th, 2013 at 01:42 am

Tonight while reading on The Bogleheads Index Forum, I learned that Barclays is currently paying .90% on savings accounts. Also, several members report that Barclays is very easy to work with.

Being a girl who enjoys getting a better deal, I hurried to the site and opened a savings account with $1.00. I must wait for the two test deposits to verify my external account before I can open additional accounts or set up automatic transfers.

As we have all come to expect from our online savings accounts, accounts can be nicknamed easily enough, just click on the icon following the account name and name it whatever you like. Here you can see that I gave mine the original and clever name of "Emergency Fund".

Use FNBOdirect and have been receiving .85% for awhile. Not sure if it is worth moving the money for the rate. Is there a cash offer?

Unfortunately, there is no bonus for opening.

My accounts are at TIAA Direct, which is down to .75%. So, I thought it was worth the move. I don't know if I would make the effort if I were getting .85%.

Hmm.. I might have to think about moving part of my savings there. Currently getting .70% I think. Might be worth it.

I have switched to Ally Bank, which is paying .84 percent. Sadly, I remember when all the online accounts were paying 5 percent!

Yes - Barclays is easy to work with.
I`m an avid bank interest rate shopper and my favorite web site to look for top interest rates and promos is DepositAccounts.com
