Car Fund Update; Personal Stuff

August 8th, 2014 at 03:43 pm

HauserNet coughed up $4.25 for decoy mail in January.

I redeemed $23.90 in credit card rewards from Capital One Quicksilver.

Barclay's paid a whole 12 cents in interest.

And we are up to $407.62 in Car Fund.

Also, redeemed credit card rewards for the year is up to $919.41.

J has one more driving school session, and it culminates with a trip to the DMV for his behind the wheel test. Yay! And then my car insurance will skyrocket. Boo!

BF has been at my house all week, and we are driving to his house this afternoon. J will be going too, as he will spend the night at his friend's house (the friend lives in the same town as BF). I think I will just let J drive. Wish me luck!

I took J shopping for school clothes a few days ago. He got 3 pairs of jeans, 4 t-shirts, 1 real shirt with buttons, collar, and sleeves, and a package of socks. It came to $211. School starts Monday.

Will you and J be sharing a car for awhile? What are the terms and conditions? What will J be required to contribute as his share for gas [operation], maintenance, insurance differential between your rate and additional driver rate etc? I recall the long list of rules as a teen when I shared a car with my mom. Based on that experience, we required DSs to share my car and they paid the increased insurance cost. They drove me crazy bringing the car home on 'fumes' the gas tank empty, light flashing and I wondered if I could get down the hill to the nearby fuel bar. I like to use on-line Gas Buddy for the best rate but that was rare.

J does not have a job, so does not have anything to contribute. Smile

I may let him borrow the car on occasion, but it is my only car, so will be driven primarily by me for now. I plan to give it to him in May when he graduates.

When I was a teen, my mom let me share her car. I think I have shared before that my mom has had money hoarding tendencies in the past, she is somewhat better now. She is not above cutting her share a little larger than yours. When we shared her car, I was allowed to drive it back and forth to work only. I paid the insurance policy for both of us. She said that was fair as she bought the tires, oil, etc. After using it once, I put $10 of gas in it, which at that time bought a full tank. The next time I went to use the car, it was on empty. From then on, I would only put $1 in on my way to work. Oh, the memories.
