Another Power Outage

We were informed today that PG&E will be turning off our power this Wednesday at 2 pm. The plan is to turn it back on Thursday at noon. However, turning it back on is a process which takes 24-48 hours.

So it looks like I will have some more non-working paid hours this week.

I don't mind being paid for hanging out with SB and Bella at home, but it is a frustrating interruption to keeping up with my work.

There are 15 counties affected by this planned power outage.

Budget and spending are going well for the month. Nothing else to report.

    Unbelievable. I wonder what measures impacted companies will take to compensate for the lost revenue.

    Wow! I couldn't live like that. That's going to be an economic problem affecting everyone. You are getting paid, yet the employer is getting no value from compensating you.

    Apparently, this is the new normal for northern and central California. I have to think that my employer is at least considering generators for buildings which don't have them already.

    We saw the fires on the news and they said the power company was going to be shutting off power and I instantly thought of you. Have you invested in a crank radio and flashlight? I found one at a thrift store the other day for $2. Hopefully we will never need it, but I have it in case we do.

    No crank radio, but we have flashlights. Also, battery back up will power our lights in the 5th Wheel for several hours (we use sparingly). We have a gasoline powered generator which will provide power for lights and electric heat. We have both electric and gas heat, the gas heat uses propane. Stove always uses propane. The fridge/freezer automatically switches to propane if no electric power is available. Electrical outlets will not work on battery or from the generator. This is just to conserve power for what is most important. I charge my phone in the car (use it for my alarm).

    We have plenty of bottled water for drinking; SB will fill our fresh water tanks so we will have water for washing, dishes, etc. (The well pump is electric. SB needs a big generator for the well.) If it really came down to it, there is a creek on the property, about a foot or so deep, with fast moving water. We could draw water, boil, and drink.

    Living up here we are learning to improvise, conserve, and manage without when necessary. We will be comfortable enough. This city girl is learning new tricks. Wink
