Happy Halloween

October 31st, 2025 at 02:50 pm

Happy Halloween everyone. I will be having a very special trick-or-treater tonight; my son and grandson will be spending the evening with me.  Both SB and my DIL will be working, so it will just be the 3 of us. We will have pizza, watch movies, and hopefully pass out a little candy.

Today is payday so I thought I would give a little summary of how my paydays go now. My deposit was $1,434.81. $225 will automatically be transferred to sinking funds, $200 will automatically go to my car loan, $750 was sent off to Citi MC, and $151.94 was sent off to my mortgage payoff fund. That brought my checking account balance down to 1k and I am done until next payday. Usually I have either a mortgage payment ($225) or a terminix payment ($178.21) to make as well, but this being the 3rd paycheck of the month it was a little different.

I put nearly all of my expenses on my Citi MC. This payment of $750 brought the balance down to about $200; all of that is new charges since the last statement so there is no balance being carried forward.

I didn't make a lot of progress toward my goal of paying off my mortgage, but a little bit of progress is the best I can do.

In the current world, unless you have a very high mortgage interest rate - which no one should - I think it makes more sense to hold on to available cash or use at least some of it to build a sustainable food store by buying non perishables you use on sale.

I bought 2 cans of soup today at 50 cents a can. My ‘regular price’ when I buy soup on sale is $1.25 and that is sale price. I figure I got 150% return on the dollar I invested in soup!

In hard times, it is tough to tap the equity in your house but we’ll always need food…

If I had a regular mortgage I wouldn't worry about it as much. But, I don't. I'm trying to avoid the situation where I must pay the balance in full but don't have the cash or an affordable loan available, forcing me to tap retirement funds.

Good job on the soup sale. 😀

    Happy belated Halloween!
